Enjuaga el área y sécala bien. Saca la sonda de su empaque, agarrándola por el embudo. Lubrica 2 a 4 pulgadas de la punta de la sonda.
Si necesitas práctica para encontrar tu uretra, separa los labios vaginales con una mano. Usando un espejo, busca la apertura de la uretra arriba de la vagina.
Para introducir la sonda, siéntate en el inodoro, separa los labios con una mano, introduce la punta lubricada en tu uretra, avanza la sonda hacia tu vejiga, sin forzarla.
Si sintieras resistencia, pausa y relájate, después continúa avanzándola. Cuando notes orina en la sonda, baja el nivel de la sonda para que la orina fluya en el inodoro.
Cuando deje de fluir la orina, retira la sonda una o dos pulgadas hasta que vuelva a fluir de nuevo.
Repite esto hasta que no salga más orina.
Retira por completo la sonda. Coloca la sonda en su paquete de nuevo y tírala a la basura. Lava tus manos.
