Las úlceras pépticas son llagas que se forman en el recubrimiento del esófago, estómago o duodeno. El esófago es el tubo que transporta la comida desde la boca hasta el estómago. El duodeno es la parte superior del intestino delgado. Las úlceras pépticas que se forman en el recubrimiento del esófago se denominan úlceras esofágicas. Las úlceras que se forman en el recubrimiento del estómago se denominan úlceras gástricas. Y las úlceras que se forman en el recubrimiento del duodeno se denominan úlceras duodenales. Los dos tipos de úlceras pépticas más comunes son las úlceras gástricas y las duodenales.
