What if my baby is going through withdrawal?
What if my baby is going through withdrawal?“Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome is where babies are withdrawing from opiate medications. In some cases, they will be withdrawing from medications that the doctors have prescribed, such as if they've been on aventilator or had surgery and required pain medicine for a long period of time. And in some cases, they will bewithdrawing from medications that mother has taken, which is often because mother was prescribed painmedications for a chronic condition she has. So, the nurses do abstinence scoring on the babies to determinetheir level of uncomfortableness during the withdrawal process. And if the number reaches a certain level thenthe babies will be given medicine to make them comfortable as they go through the withdrawal process.”This program is for informational purposes only.
